Q：どうしてＹＷＣＡで日本語を勉強しようと思いましたか。／Why did you decide to study Japanese at the YWCA?
A：実は来日して9年が経っています。今後も日本で生活していく予定で、かつコロナ禍で時間に余裕が生まれたので、日本語の勉強を始めることにしました。子どもも日本の小学校と幼稚園に入ったので、これから名古屋が故郷になっていくと思います。この学校は職場の友人から「伝統もあって、きちんとした学校」だと勧められ、入ることにしました。
Actually, it has been 9 years since I came to Japan. I plan to continue living in Japan in the future, and recently, the situation of COVID-19 has given me more time to spare, so I decided to start studying Japanese. My children have started elementary school and kindergarten in Nagoya, so I think Nagoya will become our home town. One of friend at work recommended this school to me as a “traditional and reliable school,” so I decided to enter.
Q：今のクラスはどうですか。／How is your current class?
A：すこし難しく感じますが、チャレンジしている感覚がとてもいいです。先生は熱心で、とても親切です。説明もとてもわかりやすいです。クラスメートはいろんな国からきていておもしろいです。少人数のクラスなので、チームメイトみたいに一緒に勉強を頑張れるのがいいです。
It is a little difficult for me, but I like to challenge. The teachers are earnest and very kind. The explanations are very easy to understand. My classmates come from many different countries and are very interesting. The class size is small, so we can study hard together like teammates.
Q：日本語を学んで、これからどんなことをやっていきたいですか。／What do you want to do in the future after learning Japanese?
A：今、宣教師の仕事をしています。その中で、10分間日本語でスピーチをする機会が定期的にあります。英語ではなく日本語で話すと、話を聞きに来た日本の人たちと心と心の関係が作れると感じます。これからも勉強をつづけていきたいです。
