Q：どうしてＹＷＣＡで日本語を勉強しようと思いましたか。／Why did you decide to study Japanese at the YWCA?

A：日本の高校に進学したいと名古屋国際センターに相談したところ、YWCAに高校入学のための勉強をサポートするクラス（グローバルスクール）があると聞いたことがこの学校に通うきっかけです。グローバルスクールでの勉強と同時に、日本語学校でも勉強をはじめることにしました。スリランカでは高校に通っていたのですが、日本に来るタイミングと卒業試験が重なってしまったので、日本でもう一度高校に通うことに決めました。高校卒業後は、大学に入りたいです。将来ソフトウェアのエンジニアになり、スマホのアプリの開発に関わってみたいからです。

I wanted to enter a Japanese high school, so I went to the Nagoya International Center for advice and heard that the YWCA provides support for high school admission (Global School). I decided to study at a Japanese language school while also attending the Global School. I had attended high school in Sri Lanka, but the timing of my arrival in Japan coincided with my graduation exams, so I decided to attend high school again in Japan. After graduating from high school, I would like to enter a university. This is because I want to become a software engineer and create applications for smartphones in the future. I would like to study at a university for that purpose.

Q：今のクラスはどうですか。／How is your current class?

A：先生はわからないことがあった時、何度も教えてくれるのでとても親切だと感じます。クラスメートはみんないい人です。特に同じスリランカ出身の友だちや、同じ歳の友だちとは何でも話ができます。授業も毎回本当に楽しくて、学校に来ることが楽しみです。日本語の勉強はむずかしいですが、もっと上手になりたいので、学校だけでなく家でも１日1時間は勉強するようにしています。毎日ではないですが、学校のテキストを使ってスマホで音声を聴きながら勉強しています。

The teachers are very helpful and teach me over and over again when I don’t understand something. My classmates are all nice people. I could talk about anything with my friends who were also from Sri Lanka and who were the same age as me. I really enjoyed every class and looked forward to coming to school every time. Learning Japanese is difficult, but I want to get better, so I try to study for an hour at home, though not every day. I use the school’s textbooks and listen to audio on my smartphone while I study.

Q：日本語を学んで、これからどんなことをやっていきたいですか。／What do you want to do in the future after learning Japanese?

A：4月から日本の高校に入学する予定です。日本人の友だちを作りたいです。また授業の内容を理解するために、勉強した日本語は役に立つと思います。今からもう日本語で数学を勉強し始めています。

I will enter a Japanese high school in this April. I hope to make Japanese friends.Japanese language will be useful for me to understand the classes at the high school. I already am studying Math in Japanese right now!
